Personal Statement:
I have been a Registered Nurse for 16 years, 7 of which was in dialysis. Dialysis experience that includes both inpatient and outpatient hemodialysis. Certified Peritoneal dialysis nurse/educator, certified Kidney Smart educator, trained in all modalities of dialysis including home hemodialysis, in-center hemodialysis, acute hemodialysis, nocturnal hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. One of my passion is Advance care planning and end of life needs as I was a hospice director prior to becoming a case manager.
Hobbies/Interests: Family; camping; running; swimming, and boating.
Why this project is important to me: This project is so important because I have seen the fear patients and families have when they are not educated on their kidney disease and the options out there. As a dialysis nurse the first hemodialysis treatment is so scary. My patients had so much anxiety they had no idea what to expect. When we give our patients education on prevention, options, action plans we set them up to succeed. I am excited to be part of this program.
