Name: Iris A. Pounds, MBA/MHA
Project Role: Clinical Research Coordinator (Duke)
Affiliation: Duke University
City, State: Durham, North Carolina
Phone: 919-668-7214
Email: [email protected]
Personal Statement: I am proud to say that I am a 15-year veteran of Duke University School of Medicine, Department of General Internal Medicine. It’s rewarding to be a part of an organization that focuses on education, prevention, early diagnosis, research and treatment of disorders (such as kidney disease) which affect everyday people. Having worked as both a Research Assistant and a Clinical Research Coordinator, I’ve had the opportunity to engage some wonderful people in the healthcare community. My greatest joy comes from interacting with study participants, whether that interaction be in-person or via telephone. Speaking with participants in a research capacity and having them entrust their information and experiences with me is the collateral beauty of my job.
Hobbies/Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family (especially my two children) and friends, interior decorating, dancing, hosting parties/events, and collecting costume jewelry.
Why this project is important to me: This project, and other kidney disease projects are so important to me because I had the unfortunate fate of both my parents being diagnosed with kidney disease. Therefore, I personally know the importance and value of kidney disease education, prevention and treatment. Although my parents are no longer here to give back to the community, I hope that my role in kidney disease research will give back on their behalf in some small way.
